Erie, PA - This first pari of General Electri-built New Haven commuter cars are the first of 144 ordered by New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authorigy and Connecticut's Department of Transportation. The stainless steel, air-condicitioned cars, which have already undergone more that 2,000 miles of test on GE's own track in Erie, Pa, will be tested for an additional 8,000 miles on New haven track before entering passenger service this fall.
